Alien Magazine is currently open for all types of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art submissions. We are looking for work that is out of this world, work that goes where no one has gone before.

Additionally, we're nice and normal people. Don't be afraid to send us anything. We are interested in what you have to offer.

We believe in you, in your art, and in aliens.

*We are currently accepting submissions for our inaugural issue, which has no specific theme*

Specific Submission Guidelines:

  • We only publish previously unpublished work
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as it’s accepted elsewhere
  • Please wait until you receive a response for your submission before submitting again
  • Please submit all written work as a .doc or .docx file and all visual work as a JPEG
  • Please put your page number and last name somewhere on each page
  • Please don’t list your previous publications within your cover letter; they don’t matter in our evaluation

For fiction we want your best. We are open to all types of stories. Specifically, we're interested in pieces that explore non-traditional narratives, though we still enjoy traditional ones that have a bit of a twist. We also enjoy stories where characters learn a life lesson and where the plot has a greater context of the world at-large.

However, all of these guidelines are just suggestions. We do not want to inhibit your creativity.

Issue One will be published online in August 2019.

*Because we're only allotted a certain number of free submissions per month under our Submittable account, we've added a small fee that will go toward our daily operations. Free submissions will return in June.*

Specific Guidelines:

  • 4,250 words max
  • Double spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman or similar font (aka nothing insane)
  • Please submit all written work as a .doc or .docx file
  • Please put your page number and last name somewhere on each page
  • Please only submit previously unpublished work
  • We accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as it’s accepted elsewhere
  • Please wait until you receive a response for your submission before submitting again
  • Finally, please don’t list your previous publications within your cover letter; they don’t matter in our evaluation

For nonfiction we want it all. We are open to any format: lyric, essay, memoir, creatively researched, etc.  We especially like pieces where the artist discovers something about themselves while writing. Additionally, we find that topics that deal with current societal issues (and there are so many societal issues currently) work well.

Issue One will be published online in August 2019.
